Judo

Judo (meaning “gentle way”) is a modern martial art and combat sport created in Japan in 1882 by Kano Jigoro. 

It has its roots in ju-jitsu which is an ancient Japanese method of self-defence and unarmed combat as well as being an Olympic Sport.

How does Judo work?

Judo focuses on throwing and grappling techniques, without the need for striking, to immobilise your opponent.

From a standing position, it involves techniques that allow you to lift and throw your opponent. 

On the ground, it includes techniques that allow you to pin your opponents down to the ground and control them.

Effective because of the live training against a resisting opponent.

How old do I have to be to do Judo?

Judo training can begin as young as 4 years old.

 

What can be gained by learning Judo?

The benefits of participating in Judo can include improvements in physical fitness, focus, positive attitudes, increases self-esteem, self-discipline, self-respect, and courtesy toward others.

We compete at regular local competitions all the way through to International competition,

Not only is Judo a fun sport for kids, it is also a great form on exercise.

In this fun and interactive class, kids are introduced to the fundamentals of both Judo & Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
